OpenAI responds to Gemini
OpenAI officially released its GPT-5.2 artificial intelligence model following a period of intense development. This came after CEO Sam Altman reportedly declared an internal emergency to fast-track the project. The company aims to reassert its position in the market following competitive pressure from Google, that launched upgraded AI models in November 2025.
Complex tasks made easy
The new model promises significant improvements in general intelligence and long-context understanding. OpenAI claimed it is better equipped for creating spreadsheets and building presentations. The system is specifically optimized to handle complex multi-step projects which is expected to drive higher economic value for users. Also, Sam Altman noted that Gemini's impact on OpenAI's metrics was less severe than they had initially feared.
Disney invests one billion
In a strategic partnership announcement, Disney did a $ one billion investment in OpenAI. This deal grants the startup permission to use iconic characters from Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel within its Sora AI video generator. This collaboration signals a tighter integration between major entertainment IP and generative video technology.
Legacy support remains
Despite the push for newer technology, the Microsoft-backed company assured developers regarding older models. They stated there are currently no plans to drop GPT-5.1, GPT-5, or GPT-4.1 from the application programming interface. This ensures that existing applications built on previous versions will continue to function without disruption.
Summary
OpenAI launched GPT-5.2 to compete with Google's Gemini 3, offering enhanced capabilities in coding and complex project management. Simultaneously, Disney invested one billion dollars to integrate its characters into the Sora video generator. OpenAI also confirmed it would maintain support for previous model versions to ensure stability for developers.
Food for thought
With massive entertainment conglomerates now investing billions to put their copyrighted characters into AI generators, are we witnessing the end of fan fiction and the beginning of corporate-controlled automated creativity?
AI concept to learn: Long-context understanding
This concept refers to the ability of an artificial intelligence model to process and remember large amounts of data at one time. It allows the AI to analyze entire documents or long code files without forgetting the beginning while working on the end. This is crucial for maintaining coherence during lengthy and complicated tasks.
