“AI is transforming healthcare from reactive to proactive, from treating illness to maintaining wellness.” - Eric Topol, Cardiologist and Author of Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Healthcare Human Again
Hospitals increasing digital investment
Indian hospitals are set to raise their information technology (IT) innovation spending by 20–25 per cent over the next two to three years, driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. According to the CII–EY HealthTech Survey 2025, nearly half of the hospitals have already dedicated 20–50 per cent of their IT budgets to digital initiatives.
Focus areas of AI-led transformation
Around 60 per cent of hospitals are investing in IT capability building, while 50 per cent are focusing on business intelligence tools and data lakes. A significant portion is being channelled into AI-driven use cases such as clinical documentation, decision support systems, and medical imaging. Hospitals are also enhancing digital skills and modernising legacy systems.
Hospitals taking concrete steps
Saifee Hospital in Mumbai is revamping its IT infrastructure by adopting AI-based electronic health records (EHR) and hospital management systems (HMIS), with an estimated 20–25 per cent budget allocation for digital expansion. Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services and Kailash Group of Hospitals have also announced similar spending commitments.
Industry-wide digital momentum
Hospitals across the country view IT investment as essential for automation, clinical decision-making, and efficiency gains. Many institutions expect digital spending to rise further, with some exceeding the projected 25 per cent growth as AI capabilities deepen across departments.
A future shaped by data and intelligence
The healthcare industry’s shift towards intelligent automation and analytics reflects a broader global trend using AI to augment human expertise rather than replace it. As data-driven systems evolve, the emphasis is moving from routine processing to predictive and precision healthcare.
