The warning from OpenAI

Now, AI firm OpenAI has issued one of its most serious cautions yet: systems that become superintelligent, meaning smarter than the brightest humans, could pose catastrophic risks to humanity, even as their promise remains huge. What superintelligence means
Superintelligence typically refers to machines more intelligent than the smartest humans. OpenAI emphasised in a blog post that while many still associate AI with chatbots, there are already systems capable of outperforming humans in very complex intellectual tasks. The company said that building such systems without being able to align and control them robustly would be a bad strategy.

The company worries that the pace of capability improvement, driven by declining computing cost per unit of intelligence, may outstrip our ability to govern safely.

At the same time, experts are warning that societal and economic contracts may have to change.
