Major Indian investment in data centres

Digital Connexion, a joint venture between Brookfield, Reliance Industries and Digital Realty, has announced an $11 b investment to build one gigawatt of AI-native data centres in Visakhapatnam by 2030. The plan aims to create purpose built facilities designed for seamless AI workloads. The development follows Google’s recent $15 b announcement for its own AI powered data centre in Visakhapatnam. Both these are designed to support high performance GPUs, TPUs and advanced processors at scale. The global AI infrastructure building is happening in India in right earnest.

Building high capacity campuses

The new campus will be spread over 400 acres and is engineered for future ready operations that meet the world’s most demanding AI needs. With support for renewable energy, carrier neutral connectivity and advanced cooling, the centres are meant to provide reliability and sustainability for long term adoption. Digital Connexion has also partnered with Adani Enterprises to integrate green energy and subsea cable systems into the project.

Driving innovation and growth

Leaders involved in the project highlight its alignment with India’s long term digital vision. With massive planned capacity and strategic partnerships, the facility is expected to encourage innovation, attract new enterprises and support the country’s transformation into a major global hub for AI compute.

Summary

India is set to add significant AI native data infrastructure as Digital Connexion invests eleven billion dollars to build one gigawatt of advanced data centres in Visakhapatnam. The project focuses on high performance compute, sustainability and strong industry partnerships.

Food for thought

How will massive AI compute centres reshape the balance of technological power across regions?

AI concept to learn: AI workloads

AI workloads refer to the computational tasks required to run training and inference for machine learning models. They demand high performing chips, fast data access and scalable infrastructure. Understanding how workloads flow through a data centre helps explain why specialised facilities like these are essential.
